Under the GDPR, Plotline is the data controller for the Service.

We only collect the information necessary to provide and improve the Service:

Account information
Email, password hash, display name, avatar.

Activity on Plotline
Ratings, reviews, likes, lists, follows, recommendation interactions.

Technical information
IP address, device, browser, logs.

Payments (Plotline Fan)
Subscription status, invoices and billing information. Payments are handled securely by Stripe. Plotline does not store full card details.

Support
Messages you send to our support team.

3. Why we use this data

We use your data for:

  • Creating and managing your account
  • Providing recommendations and platform features
  • Processing subscriptions and payments
  • Maintaining security and preventing fraud
  • Sending essential service notifications (verification, security, changes)
  • Analytics and advertising through cookies (with consent)

All processing is done under a valid legal basis, mainly contract, legitimate interest, legal obligation, or consent (for cookies).

4. Cookies and analytics

  • keep sessions active,
  • measure usage and performance,

  • Active Accounts: Account data is kept as long as your account is active.
  • Deleted Accounts: When you request account deletion, your account and all associated data (including personal information, reviews, and lists) are permanently deleted from our active databases. We do not retain your data after deletion.
  • Backups: Temporarily retained to ensure security and integrity.
  • Billing records: Kept for 10 years as required by commercial law.
  • Cookies: Up to 13 months depending on the type.

Data may be accessed only when necessary by:

  • hosting and database providers,
  • payment processor (Stripe),
  • email, analytics or technical service providers.

Some providers may process data outside the EU. When this happens, legally required safeguards are applied (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).
